As Harpenden’s unique local restaurant our specialities include the most local prime lamb and beef from the award-winning Hedges Farm and organic specialty bread from Redbournbury Mill. Local cheeses feature in Childwickbury Goats cheese and Roasted Vegetable Gratin and our Cheeseboard showcasing the best of British and local. Beef Pinwheels are back by demand.
Exciting new mains are still local, with brand new local Morroccan Lamb Skewers joining our own Gold British Pie Award 2014 Harpenden Beef and Ale Pie and award-winning local 10oz Beef Sirloin Steak. Vegetarians and others looking for something different can try the popular return of our Breaded Garlic Mushrooms and new additions including Balti Vegetable Parcel. Also look out for River Cobbler and our changing Specials for something even more different.
For homemade Deserts, our renowned favourites are joined by all-new Maids of Honour, Chocolate and Vanilla Maccaroons, Peach Cheesecake Crumble and Crème Brulee. Our own-brewed bottle-conditioned real ale remains as popular as ever and now listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
Our award-winning Chef-owner Alec continues with his work promoting local food and drink and is now something of a regular on BBC 3 Counties Radio with Nick Coffer’s ”Weekend Kitchen”. John is working with the Town Council and others on the Food & Drink Festival events.
Only dishes prepared exclusively on the premises in small quantities and cooked to order are served to ensure quality. The Local Specialties section shows exactly where the food comes from to bring you the Best of British as part of our work with local producers showcasing the highest quality ingredients. Many herbs, hops, fruit and vegetables are grown or foraged by us and we actively support community vegetable growing in Harpenden as part of St Albans Food Smiles. Our tiny roof herb garden is becoming established and guarantees even more freshness.
