Welcome to our new Spring Menu. This Spring we celebrate 4 years of good food and drink.
As Harpenden’s unique local restaurant our specialities include the most local prime organic beef from Harpenden’s own Hammonds End Farm as well as the award-winning Hedges Farm and organic specialty bread from Redbournbury Mill. Local cheeses feature in Blue cheese Tartlet and Childwickbury Goats cheese and Fig Salad.
Exciting new mains are even more local, with brand new local Lamb Turnovers joining our Harpenden Beef and Ale Pie and Award-winning local Beef Sirloin Steak. Vegetarians and others looking for something different can try some new additions. Also look out for our changing Specials for something even more different.
For homemade Deserts, our renowned Mousse stays in lighter form as White Chocolate and Bailey’s Mousse and joined by all new British Fruit Compote. Numpty Bump is an unusual old English must-try and our British Cheeseboard stays for the season. Our own-brewed bottle-conditioned real ale remains as popular as ever and now listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
Our award-winning Chef-owner Alec continues with his work promoting local food and drink and is becoming something of a regular on BBC 3 Counties Radio with Nick Coffer’s ”Weekend Kitchen”.
Only dishes prepared exclusively on the premises in small quantities and cooked to order are served to ensure quality. The Local Specialties section shows exactly where the food comes from to bring you the Best of British as part of our work with local producers showcasing the highest quality ingredients. Many herbs, hops, fruit and vegetables are grown or foraged by us. Our tiny roof herb garden is becoming established and guarantees even more freshness.
If you fancy a bit of fun with our unique Restaurant Quiz Mondays to Thursdays just ask for this week’s questions and an answer sheet for a chance to win a bottle of wine. No entry fee, no ‘Quiz Master, no intrusion at all – just take your time and let your brilliance shine through on your own, with friends or a party. One entry per table.
